In and Out of the Mould

This self-portrait explores an experimental possibility of portraiture. The two sides of my face are cast to expose the interiority of the form. The imprint of my face, split it two, contains an accurate representative of my features through the process of casting.
In creating this portrait I grappled with the process of self-portraiture. Instead of portraying the whole person or character, I attempt to activate the inside spaces of my face, suggesting the metaphysical state of duality generated through the process of casting, which re-addresses where I have been, in and out of the mould.
