Puddles, Stains And Remnants

Puddles, Stains and Remnants

2015

digital laser print, photography, transfer process, A4 cotton paper.

This work is a the result of a research project that documented a trajectory from Bangalow, regional New South Wales, Australia to Barcelona. The work examines the paradigm of photography and cartography as preservers of “trace”.
To make a map is representative of process and experience that precedes the map. I embody my living environment and the way I orient myself to the moment. I used a literal reduction with my camera lens and imply a metaphysical reduction of reality. In the hope that the viewer is able to suspend judgment and focus solely on the surface, form, remnants and stains of the cultural density found on the streets of Barcelona. This enabled me to re-enforce the idea that the cognitive leap involved in metaphor; when one thing stands for another; can be removed and the work can be translated as a “trace”, a lived moment.
